Singapore, 14 July 2004

Service excellence will once again take centre-stage as the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) kicks off the nominations for the 19th Tourism Awards on 15 July 2004. Nominations will close on 31 October 2004. The Tourism Awards is part of the STB’s efforts to elevate the tourism industry’s service standard as well as encourage the industry to innovate and create unique Singapore experiences and distinctive service elements to enhance Singapore’s competitiveness.

To encourage more local and foreign participation, nominations can be submitted either online (via the Tourism Awards website at www.tourismawards.com), through a local toll-free hotline (1800-4AWARDS/ 1800-4-292737), or via the official forms made available at 1,700 locations island-wide including restaurants, hotels, attractions, shopping centres, retail outlets, all Singapore Visitor Centres, as well as the STB’s overseas offices. Participants who submit their nominations online can stand to win attractive lucky draw prizes worth up to S$1,000 each.

The annual Tourism Awards, organised by the STB, will be in its 19th year in 2005. The number of awards has grown to 26 – of which 22 are open to public nominations. 2005 will see the introduction of two new awards; Best BTMICE Event Experience and Best Sightseeing / Leisure / Educational Programme. These two awards recognize industry players who have harnessed innovation and creativity to enhance Singapore’s status as a premier destination to business travellers, Free and Independent Travellers (FIT) and overseas students. Five existing awards have also been renamed to reflect the greater emphasis on innovation, creativity and the experiential factors. (Please refer to Annex A for the full list of awards and criteria.)

As a form of recognition and to enhance the value of the awards, the STB will also present the “Tourism Awards Finalist” and “Tourism Awards Winner” decals to the finalists and winners respectively.
